Newsletter February 2020: How Deep is Your Love?

Not only one of our favorite Bee Gees songs, but it is February – the month of Valentine’s Day and love. A great way to express love for yourself and for others is to be as healthy as you can be. Sometimes it can be a challenge to control our own behaviors regarding food and lifestyle. It is also worthwhile to encourage our friends and loved ones to pursue and to begin a path to a healthier lifestyle. Susana and I are here to support you and your loved ones on this journey. Show them your love is very deep and share the love. We encourage you to utilize our referral program – you refer a new client and they receive $50 off their initial consult and you receive 10% off your next supplement purchase.

I had my own interesting digestive health experience this past month that I would like to share with you. Please feel free to read it below as we discuss the benefits of the GI-MAP test.

We will be out of the office February 14 - 29. Please review your supplement supply to ensure you have enough. We will be sending out another reminder next week. Please call or email Bernie for arrangements.

The GI-MAP – A Map of Your Gut Health
If you really want to know what is going on in your gut this is the test we recommend.  Current research illustrates the close relationship between gut health and overall health. The gut microbiome plays a critical role in mediating the effects of diet and other factors on health, including digestive, immune, metabolic and neuroendocrine functions. Assessing your GI heath provides critical information in determining the underlying causes of symptoms you may be experiencing.

The GI-MAP (Microbial Assay Plus) is unique in the field of comprehensive stool testing. It relies exclusively on quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) technology to detect parasites, bacteria, fungi and more by targeting the specific DNA of the organisms tested.

Here’s my story:
Through the past year I have been going through the process of a dental implant. The last part of the process was making the final impression. I am sure many of you have experienced the goop that they put in the metal tray and stick in your mouth. I had two impressions, each lasting two minutes. During that time, I was swallowing my saliva and likely some form of the impression material and breathing in the fumes as well. The work was done Friday morning.

By Saturday afternoon I was starting not to feel right and by Sunday afternoon I had (to put it mildly and avoid TMI) a very upset and unhappy digestive system. On Monday in the office I used my techniques to figure out what was happening. I had no fever or other signs infection. My conclusion based on my evaluation and research into the ingredients in the impression material was a bio-chemical reaction to the materials.

I immediately started a supplement protocol to support chemical detoxification. I improved a little on Tuesday and Wednesday, but Susana threatened to take me to the doctor unless I did a stool test. So, I did the GI-MAP on Thursday, as somewhat solid stools had returned, and I was feeling a little better. By Friday I was feeling better and no longer showing signs of the chemical sensitivity.

I got the GI-MAP results the following week. As I suspected there were no signs of infection: no virus, parasites, pathogenic bacteria, or fungus. However, my bacteria was out of balance. I was low on some of the good bacteria, high on some of the bad bacteria, and even high on some of the beneficial bacteria. I consulted with the doctor at the testing company and gave him the full story. I wanted to be sure that it was not my own personal bias influencing my evaluation. Sure enough, he confirmed that what he saw in the test was likely a result of biochemical toxicity!
