Newsletter May 2020: Don't Let The Quarantine 15 Get You!

Office Update
Soon we will be able to resume in-office appointments. We believe we are all looking forward to that. When we re-open our doors to you we want to ensure that you feel safe. As we get closer to that date, we will notify you of the new in-office procedures. Included will be more spacing between appointments. Therefore, there will be fewer appointments available per day. We appreciate your support as we work through these new procedures.
Also, we will have hospital grade air purifiers in each of our rooms along with personal air purifiers. Next week we will tell you more about these air purifiers!

Having a healthy diet and watching your weight are more critical than ever!

Today, we are all challenged by the “Quarantine 15” – with the refrigerator close at hand to cure stress and boredom and liquor stores essential businesses it is easy to gain a few pounds.
We are all doing our part by being “safer at home” but at the same time we should not be compromising our health by adding toxic weight. Many times, we have discussed that being overweight is the greatest risk to our health. This risk has been magnified during the pandemic.
But we do not have to be slaves to our refrigerators. We can break free of our chair-to-fridge cycle and curb our constant cravings. Here’s how. We are offering two great options for you!
Option 1 - SHAPE ReMote: We are pleased to announce that SHAPE ReClaimed is now available remote! Thanks to Dr. Todd and Linda Frisch and Urinox-10 we now have the capability to do reliable remote urine testing. With that, we are now able to confidently offer virtual SHAPE consultations!

Here is how it works.  Once you sign up for the program, we will provide you with your SHAPE ReClaimed Program Guide, a weigh-in form, urinalysis strips and instructions. Prior to each virtual consult you will weigh yourself and do the urinalysis at home, record your results and email them to Susana. She will schedule a consultation with you to discuss the results and make any necessary dietary changes. Susana can also help you navigate through stressors and provide suggestions to help you cope.

You are in control of your health and wellness when it comes to the SHAPE journey. Is this the best time for a program like SHAPE? When we ask that question, we get opinions on both sides. Tips to Help You Get Healthy

Losing weight and getting healthy can be done, even under quarantine. Here is his list of things that everyone can do daily to help improve your overall health:

  • Consistent sleep schedule. Go to bed at the same time every night and wake up at the same time. Do not stay up late just because you can. Sticking to a schedule will help your body to do what it needs to do, when it needs to do it.
  • Buy fresh produce. When purchasing groceries, make sure to buy fresh produce. Do not only buy non-perishable items. Grocery stores still have quality fruits and veggies available.
  • Practice self-control. Everyone loves treats but a treat should not be half the bag of chips or the carton of ice cream. Before you eat your treat, grab a small bowl or small plate and put a reasonable portion of whatever it is, then put the rest away. You will not feel as tempted to go back for more if you do not see it in front of you. Using small dishes helps your mind think there is more there, triggering satisfaction sooner.
  • Get moving. Working out does not need to be at a gym or in a class. Go for a walk or a bike ride. Getting outside will improve your mood and boost your Vitamin D also. Other options include doing virtual classes and Zoom workouts with friends. Make exercising a family affair and include your kids and pets.
  • Stay hydrated. Make sure to drink as much water as possible. Have eight 8 oz glasses of water per day.
  • Set meal times. Eating on a schedule will help you fight cravings and stay satisfied throughout the day.
